'22 Jump Street' Tops Box Office with Estimated $62 M, 'How to Train Your Dragon 2' Places Second

"22 Jump Street" has taken the lead on Box Office, earning an estimated $62 million opening weekend, leaving "How to Train Your Dragon 2" on its tail with a projected $53 million takings.

Sony/MGM's R-rated comedy sequel gathered $25 million on Friday with the $5.5 million ticket sales from late-night Thursday shows included, while Fox/Dreamworks' animated movie sits second with $18 million including the $2 million ticket sales from Thursday night, Variety reported

As of the latest update from Deadline Saturday, June 14, the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill flick already snatched around $60 million or less for the three-day weekend as sales dropped about 25% from Friday to recent count; nonetheless, it is reportedly hailed as the second-best showing R-rated comedy of all time next to "The Hangover: Part II" which earned $85.9 million on its May 2011 debut.

Sitting on third spot is Disney's "Maleficent," starring Angelina Jolie, which is expected to finish with $20 million after a $5.8 million earning on Friday. The fantasy film is already on its third weekend and will wrap up with around $165 million.

Last weekend's big opener "The Fault in Our Stars," starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, took fourth place on the list raking $6.3 million on Friday, with a projected $15.8 million weekend earning and a total of $82 million for 10 days.

Closing the top five is Warner Bros.'sci-fi action "Edge of Tomorrow" starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, estimated to have $15.6 million sales - a 45% decline compared to its previous performance. It earned $4.5 million on Friday and already took $55.7 million two weeks after its release.
